£4.50 for parking? I’d get the train, except I’ve got to be at the SECC for 9.30. So, I’ve decided to park at the Science Centre, which is marginally quicker to reach (and slightly cheaper), plus I get my choice of bridges on which to walk over the Clyde. Excellent idea (I love bridges).
Except… no wallet. Nowhere [...]

LTS are about to publish a whole pile of Information Literacy help and it looks pretty good. Bit confusing to hear it refered to as “Information and Critical Literacy” but I’m adaptable. Sadly though, although the posters and information looks really helpful, it’s still all very worksheet based, wordy and a bit worthy.
Where’s the relevance? Where’s [...]

itting having a cup of tea, my eyes were continually drawn to a collection of what appeared to be model boats on one of the stands. On investigating I discovered that this was the outcome of “I Sea”, an interdisciplinary project between the Scottish Maritime Museum and S2 at Irvine Royal Academy, involving English, Art [...]

Started off with a fabulous presentation by the Heritage Education Forum along with a fabulous inspirer of young minds, Mairi MacIver, and some of the minds in question (I am always in awe of kids speaking at the Festival.)
Taking a simple concept and developing it into a cross-curricular extravaganza is my bread and butter – except [...]

Throughout SLF07, I’ve been impressed with the way that some schools are using blogs as communication tools for their communities. We’ve been discussing better methods of keeping in touch with parents and former pupils for a while now and blogging could definitely provide an answer.
So another project that I’m going to put in place on Tuesday is [...]

Back to SLF07 and one of the highlights – something I think I can use. The Scribble social networking tool on SCRAN might be just the thing for a project at work.
We’ve got an Advanced Higher English group coming from a number of schools, some pupils not able to come to every lesson and four [...]

Congrats to Ewan McIntosh for the first mention of Librarians at SLF07, as “essential” because we “understand the web”. Sweet, especially given Ewan’s job title.
And thanks for showing us the Tonga Cipi Tao vs New Zealand haka. Fabulous.

SLF07

I love the Scottish Learning Festival . There’s always something to spark the imagination and this year’s no exception.
This year I felt distinctly under-equipped: no laptop. I did wonder about weight though. The laptop I use at work isn’t very old so it’s not that heavy, but I wouldn’t choose to lug it around with me all [...]
