The kids each chose a place to visit this weekend. Daughter chose the Glasgow Science Centre, because she’d visited with school and she’d loved all the Wallace and Gromit stuff. The Boy, surprise surprise, chose Our Dynamic Earth. Two science based attractions: what was better? This is based purely on personal enjoyment of things to [...]

Happiness is the unexpected

Went to the Glasgow Science Centre but we were too late for the planetarium show. Instead we went for a wander, first towards the tower, and then back over the Millennium Bridge and along to the Tall Ship, dragging two disappointed kids with us. And then, sublime events unfolded: Bell’s Bridge opened to let the [...]
Paisley Abbey

Went to visit Paisley Abbey, except of course, it was Sunday, so not open for visitors. Instead had a wander around teh outside and found some fantastic gravestones and amaxzing sculptures high up on the walls including a kangaroo! Was a bit taken aback until I remembered that most of the abbey was rebuilt inthe 19th century. Also [...]

Got a wee surprise yesterday as I walked down to the boats at Braehead. I glanced down at the Clyde and had a sudden rush of pure terror, couldn’t move. Nervously called over to Mr Jenn that I would just stay on dry land and when he laughed back at me to get a move [...]

Went to Palacerigg with brother and family. My head hurts if I have to bend down so I’ve decided against doing that. Makes it awkward to tie shoelaces but I’d rather trip than feel my brain trying to push through my skull. Got to Palacerigg along some rather wonderfully crunchy roads before we found the [...]

Took plenty of photos at Bothwell Castle at the weekend, and despite the overcast, a quick look suggests that they’ve turned out quite well. In particular, there’s a nice green tinge from the moss that didn’t show up in bright sunshine. On the other hand, it may look terrible on the computer screen. I’ve noticed [...]
Black Isle 2009

I have been looking forward to returning to the Black Isle so much. I’ve been looking at ideas for days out, places to revisit, suggestions from contacts about what we missed last time. And now it’s done, and I’m totally exhausted, to the extent that there’s been a beautiful summer’s day going on outside and [...]
Black Isle Wildlife Park

A return from last year, mainly for the zebras. It is hot though, so the animals are seeking shade, much like we should if we weren’t quite so insane. First though, we are forced to discuss the meaning of the word “maximum” with the woman behind the desk. She won’t sell us a family ticket [...]
Day 1 – Cars and beaches

The car (more like a van with seats and windows) that the parents have hired turns out to have two bald tyres, which have to be replaced. So instead of leaving at 10ish, it was closer to one o’clock before we got on the road. We had been considering travelling up the Great Glen, but [...]
Community Walk

I found a fabulous website today called Community Walk. The idea is simple: take a local area, take photos of the places of interest within your chosen area, link them all to a map and share the information with the world. It’s a bit like being taken for a wander by a friend who knows [...]
