I’m in love. I’m so much in love. The virtual world created for CANVAS is just stunning. The kids will love it too. We’ll never be able to get them out.
Enough rambling. CANVAS (Children’s Art at the National Virtual Arena for Scotland) is a virtual art gallery created to house artworks from our schools. It’s [...]

Getting Glowing
Posted in ICT, learning and teaching, resources, tagged Glow on April 21, 2009 | 3 Comments »
Glow has had to take a back seat for a while, but I’ve had a chance to do a bit more exploring tonight. I’ve discovered some strange things have been happening. I’ve been allocated my SCA username / password, but wasn’t told about it. The new username also has my name spelt correctly, but I [...]

First day back, stinking headache. Too much time spent in small room, staring at a screen might be the reason.
Could also be lack of scones.
All day I’m seeing investigations and activities and wondering if they would be best served on Glow, or fine where they are.
S2 History are still working on JFK, and the same [...]
Still Glowing

Day 2 on mentor training answers a few more questions – but there’s still no scones.
There is a simple survey creator – but you can’t export the data. Hmm.
There is a text editor, but you can’t copy and paste. Right….
You can drag and drop on a PC, but not on a Mac. Sorry??????????
Today we also [...]

First day training as a Glow Mentor and I’m confused.
Why are there no scones? In-service without scones just isn’t the done thing!
Also, what’s the role of the website, if we’re all on the intranet? I see roles for both, it’s just figuring out what’s to go where, and what needs duplicated, and so on. One [...]
Never say “Never”

After writing the entry below, I went to try and sort some links between the pages of the wiki. To my surprise, one of the pages had changed drastically, so I had a closer look.
No fewer than four separate pupils / pairs had logged in and altered their work on Saturday. Another change was made on [...]
Never Going Back

Never Going Back is the name the 2nd year class gave to their wiki. They had five periods to create it and some of them have done exceptionally well.
But, throughout their work, there was another problem. It was refusing to save their work. I had taken advice (thanks, ) and encouraged them to write directly onto the wikipage. [...]
A day in the worklife: period 4: SCRAN and slavery

Another slavery class but we’re trying a different tack. SCRAN allows users to create all kinds of worksheets and posters, so we’ve asked the class to research slavery prior to making an abolition poster using the SCRAN images.
Except, the technology is letting us down again. On this occasion I can’t be sure if the problem is our [...]
A day in the worklife: period 2: the free period!

I was getting the new Creative Suite software loaded onto the computers the first two periods (hurray!) but unfortunately that meant the 6th years had to be ejected from the ICT. Instead I was kept busy (and happily so) providing assistance with personal statements and debate research rather than making sure the website was showing the [...]
