Jool’s New Year Hootenanny has a bit of a diva-fest going on. Martha Reeves, Duffy, Adele, Annie Lennox.
Annie still has it – stunning and emotional performances. She looks fabulous, gorgeous and dignified. I’m much happier to know that Annie, amongst many others would see in the New Year quietly in their own house – in [...]

Hi, I’m Jen and I have a reading problem.
Nothing fictional appeals to me. I can’t find anything decent, nothing I can sink my teeth into.
Am I asking too much to want every book I read to be excellent, exciting and encourage my mind to wander in new directions? I don’t think so. But more and more [...]
Frosty and Flickr

Went for a wander with the camera this morning. The sun was struggling with the clouds, although it lit the frost with gold when it did get through. Naturally I didn’t manage to capture any of this. Not in focus anyway.
What I am quite pleased with are the pictures of icecrystals from the tops of the fence [...]
Post Christmas

Well I finally seem to have made it through to the other side, of the cold that is. I ended up going home on the last Tuesday of term with streaming nose and burning eyes and basically slept for a week.
Felt like a traitor to my gender as I wallowed in unwellness while the telly shoved adverts [...]
Holiday websites

I’m always on the lookout for websites that let you do things, like FreeRice and Wordle. There are always periods when a teacher is off and the stand-in is looking for something interesting for the kids to do. (Also good for five minutes bribery of ”If you’ve been good” time and especially for this time of [...]

Could you hand me a brick wall, please?

Last week I spoke to the students about how to get the best out of their school library – how to help the Librarian, what to expect in return, not forgetting “we are all individuals“. I thought my mindmap of notes just required printing, but instead it was nowhere to be seen. And I knew [...]
Never say “Never”

After writing the entry below, I went to try and sort some links between the pages of the wiki. To my surprise, one of the pages had changed drastically, so I had a closer look.
No fewer than four separate pupils / pairs had logged in and altered their work on Saturday. Another change was made on [...]
Never Going Back

Never Going Back is the name the 2nd year class gave to their wiki. They had five periods to create it and some of them have done exceptionally well.
But, throughout their work, there was another problem. It was refusing to save their work. I had taken advice (thanks, ) and encouraged them to write directly onto the wikipage. [...]
What’s in a name?

I had the strangest conversation with a friend about names. She is from outwith these isles and had been castigating some pupils for making fun of her accent (and quite right too).
On the other hand, she’s not worried about how people pronounce her name. Most folks don’t say it the way she does. To me that’s [...]
